Zapotec Weavings
Zapotec Premium Weavings of Teotitlan in the Valley of Oaxaca are our finest quality Mexican rugs using Mohair and similar premiere wools. The Zapotec Indians were perfecting their art long before European settlers arrived. The Spanish enhanced their looms and introduced wool. These are pieces of textile art at their finest. For your floor or your wall, the rugs in this group are collectible pieces of art. The patterns you find here are all considered special -- from a design, similar to a Greek key, found on the sides of ancient buildings, to the Southwest medallion, serrated diamonds, and pre-Columbian designs such as the caracol (snail). To many people, designs appear to be from the American Southwest, but to the Zapotec artists, the designs represent a rich cultural heritage. We have just one of each rug pictured here.
