Aleksander Titovets
Aleksander Titovets’s work is firmly rooted in the Russian oil painting tradition, with a classical style that combines powerful realism with the softer lyricism of Impressionism.
He was born in Siberia and grew up in St. Petersburg (formerly Leningrad), Russia. He lives in El Paso, TX. He emigrated there with his wife Lyuba from St. Petersburg in 1992. In the ensuing years, both Aleksander and Lyuba have ascended to the top tier of American artists. Their portrayals of the soulful nuances of their homeland quickly garnered the notice of prominent collectors and respected dealers across the country and abroad.
Early in 2008, Alexksander Titovets was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to paint the portrait of first lady Laura Bush that will hang in the Gallery in Washington, D.C.
Titovets received a Masters of Fine Arts degree from the St. Petersburg State University College of Fine Arts, where he later taught painting. After graduation, he was elected a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR at the very early age of 26.
He has participated in competitions with the National Academy of Design in New York and the Oil Painters of America. He won Best in Show in the International Fine Art Competition four years in a row among competitors in his region. For many years running, he has been selected as a guest artist for Great American Artists and Artists of America, which honored him in 1998 with the Artist's Choice Award.
His works are in private and public collections worldwide, including those of Sophia Loren and King Juan Carlos of Spain. He has been featured in International Artists magazine, where he was described as “one of America’s great leading Impressionistic painters.” He continues to find inspiration in memories of his homeland and from the painters Titian and Velazquez.
